LSA Halloween Costume Party 2014

On Oct 25th, LSA celebrated Halloween with a spooky costume party that was a total scream!

We had tons of frightening fun with our Halloween costume parade, which was attended by over 100 families! Both students, staff and moms and dads made an awesome effort and looked amazing! Spiderman was a popular outfit for the boys (we counted at least 6!) and we had so many mini princess Elsas!

It was gruesome games galore in our creepy classrooms... we had a smelly swamp, sensory slime jars, pin the bones on the skeleton, feed the pumpkin and tons more! It was a batty blast!

The children were spellbound in our kooky kitchen where we made mummified pizzas and 'boo-nana' lollipops! Yummy and yucky all at once!

To collect their treats, our students spent some time in our arghhhh-mazing art studio creating ghoulish gift jars before heading to our terrifying trick or treat room - an entire classroom devoted to candies, cupcakes and cookies! But that wasn't the sweetest thing about the day...

The sweetest thing was the launch of our partnership with 'Couleurs de Chine',an organization from Guangxi province that helps to provide education to childrenin rural areas. LSA encouraged families to donate 20 RMB to the halloween eventand ultimately raised a total of 4,210, which is enough to send 5.5 children to school for a whole year! What a stellar achievement! Thanks toall who attended and showed their generosity!

All of LSA's events this year will benefit our partners Couleurs de Chine. LSA's events include: Christmas celebration/Children's Art Auction(December 13, 2014); "LSA loves China"event-celebrating Valentines Day & CNY (February 13, 2015); a "Spring Has Sprung"event (May 9th, 2015) and an end of the year "Surf n' Summer BBQ" (June 13, 2015). The partnership with Couleurs de Chine forms part of our "service learning" emphasis, which seeks to "develop the heads and hearts" of our students (which is part of LSA's mission statement). Through our innovative character development curriculum, we help our children and their families to enjoy and understand the importance of serving and giving to others. And if our Halloween event was anything to judge by, this is the start of alife-enriching partnership.
